SPRING 2026 ~ Lex LaRue

'Testing my limits'

Gilded Irises- Wateremarked.JPG

"Gilded Irises"

Acrylic on Canvas

8.5x11 in

My very first art-nouveau piece. To say the least; I fell in love with the style. It is honestly difficult to find the words for how much I appreciate the facets of it, so all i’ll say is… Much more to come!

Realistic Art Nouveau

"Jonquil Panes"

5x8.5 in

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

Though small but mighty, this piece holds a very special place in my artist heart; as it was what changed my direction as an artist. It is what made me realize that a realistic stained glass look was achievable with paint.

Competing Florals Watermarked.jpg

"Competing Florals"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

20x30 in

A labor of love all around. This piece contains my favorite colors, my favorite plants, and even the favorite parts of my own spirit. I believe myself to be a very competitive person, in both good in bad ways. That is reflected in this piece, as the different blooms fight for their space as they climb to the canopy above.

"January Blooms"

4x6 in

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

A fully developed design from my Botanical Stained Glass coloring book; these carnations & snowdrops represent the birth flowers of January (my birth month!). Snowdrops are one of my favorite flower, due to their duality in nature: existing as a rare winter flower.

Mighty Blue Watermarked.jpg

"Mighty Blue"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

9x12 in

Inspired by a real Bluejay I was lucky enough to meet and photograph while camping in Poudre Canyon, CO. Every morning and eve my campite was visited by ‘mighty blue’ and each time I couldn’t help myself from taking more pictures. So of course I had to take it a step further & paint the pretty bird!

"Divided Companions"

5x7 in

Acrylic on Canvas

I wanted to create a story-like feel with this piece, hence the title. Taking place in a stained glass library, these unlikely companions share an interaction that is open to interpretation. I personally like to imagine that the black cat is attempting to free the raven from the cage, so they may both be free amongs the books.

"Make Art not War"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

11x20 in

I honestly never thought this 'old phrase from the 60s' would ever hold much relevance in my life; whether that is due to my youthful nieve-ness or simply because the world has gotten worse. Either way, it does indeed hold relevance. Art is a very powerful tool to connect world issues and politics to comminity and people as a whole; which is what inspired me to make this phrase into a piece in my style.

TY for the Compliment- Watermarked.jpg

"Thank you for the Complement"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

11x20 in

Titled with a pun; this piece is more fun than it is serious. I started with two ‘complementary’ colors and just took it from there! After painting it, I realize that the color combo is also that of the Broncos; can you say super subtle decor?

"Find your Wings"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

9x12 in

Part of a pair, this piece was created to represent one’s inner power. Finding your wings means rising above and out of whatever is caging you; and using the tools you’ve had all along. The sister-piece to this is titled “Find your Fire”.

"Find your Fire"

Watercolour on Cold-Press Paper

9x12 in

Part of a pair, this piece was created to represent one’s inner power. Finding your fire means being able to burn through and out of anything holding you back. The sister-piece to this is titled “Find your Wings”.

"Flora & Fauna"

5x7 in

Acrylic on Canvas

Made for Earth Day 2026, this piece holds a very dear place in my heart as a native-Coloradoan. The colombine is the state flower of Colorado and has always been one of my favorites. I also included the elk because I wanted to highlight both the 'flora' AND the 'fauna' of the nature surrounding me, which is where the piece gets it's name.
